oligospermia in lahore

One of the common underlying issues of male infertility is Oligospermia. This condition is difficult to diagnose and therefore it is unclear how many men may be suffered for Oligospermia. Naturally only those men who are trying to conceive and cannot may be diagnosed as they reach out for help. This condition can be treated with the help of a professional.

Oligospermia is characterized by the low sperm count of less than 15 million sperm per milliliter of semen as identified by WHO.

This can be categorized into three types:

  1. Mild Oligospermia is 10 – 15 million sperm/mL
  2. Moderate Oligospermia is 5 – 10 million sperm/mL
  3. Severe Oligospermia  is when the sperm count drops to 0 – 5 million sperm/mL

A low sperm count can be caused by a variety of things, such as

  • Varicoceles (Enlarged veins in a man’s scrotum)

This can obstruct blood flow to the testicles. This can cause the temperature of testicles to increase and any increase in temperature can negatively affect the sperm production.

  • Infections
  • Some sexually transmitted diseases (gonorrhea, chlamydia)

This can affect the sperm production in semen.

  • Tobacco
  • Drugs
  • Stress
  • Obesity
  • Hormone issues
  • Ejaculation issues

Retrograded ejaculation can also cause this which happens when semen enters the bladder instead of leaving from the tip of the penis.

If the causes for this condition are known, then surgery or medicated can be used to cure it. For example in cases of infection, a doctor will prescribe antibiotics which will help in curing Oligospermia. However, if the cause of this Oligospermia is unknown, there are several treatments a doctor may prescribe:

  • IUI (intra uterine insemination) involves injecting sperm inside a woman’s uterus to facilitate fertilization. The aim of this procedure is increasing the number of sperm that reach the fallopian tubes and in due course increase the chance of fertilization.
  • IVF (In vitro fertilization) – this procedure is performed by retrieving mature eggs from a woman’s ovaries and a good quality sperm from the man. The egg is them fertilized in a controlled environment; a lab.
  • Lifestyle changes – a doctor may prescribe the some lifestyle changes that may be affecting sperm production
