  • CAD Software Skills

Mechanical design engineers rely on CAD software to create their designs, so you need to be familiar with them. The good news is that this skill is relatively easy to pick up — you need a basic understanding of how CAD works and some time to practice.

  • FEA Software Skills

One of the most important skills for mechanical design engineers to have is a knowledge of finite element analysis software. This powerful tool can be used to understand how an object will behave under different conditions. It can help mechanical engineers determine what materials should be used and how they should be arranged to create the desired outcome.

Finite element analysis software allows engineers to simulate stresses and forces on objects and heat transfer between them and the environment. Designers can then use this information to determine how their designs will perform when built and tested in real-life situations. For example, suppose you’re designing a new piece of machinery that needs to withstand certain pressures and temperatures. In that case, you’ll use finite element analysis software to find out exactly how these factors affect your design so that you can make adjustments before moving ahead with production.
