Five Signs to Look for Replacing Windows and Front Doors

3 min read

Windows and doors are the most important architectural feature of any building. Imagining your house without them feels like no less than a prison. They are the ways to improve your comfort, reduce your energy bills, and enhance the quality of your health and life overall.

However, windows and doors make up the exterior part of your house and thus, take a big hit from weather and other environmental factors. Even the best quality frames and double-glazed glasses don’t last forever. Soon after ten to fifteen years, they go beyond repair, and you need to go for an immediate window or door replacement.

You may have to encounter their deteriorating condition way before if the materials used aren’t up to the mark. But, how do you know that it is the right time for an upgrade? Well, here is a list of signs to spot the decreasing efficiency and performance of your current windows and doors –

  1. Malfunctioning

Windows and doors, as they age, face frequent jamming and sticking. Rusting, rotting, and mold developing around the hinges are the culprits showing your windows and doors are close to the end of their service lives. So, if you constantly face difficulty in their opening, closing, or locking, you better check for new window options.

  1. Visible Damages

Just like any other fixture in your home, windows and front doors have to deal with wear and tear in changing weather conditions. Rains and wind storms, especially, bring along major distressing with flying debris. You may see cracks on the glass and wrap around the frame. If you do notice, contact a professional for a quick replacement to avoid expensive loss.

  1. High Energy Bills

Inefficient windows are recognized from an increased burden on your annual energy bills. There is a significant loss of heat due to gaps in the window or door frame, and your central heating system has to work harder to compensate for that. The same holds for air conditioning; your rooms are less cool than usual. Therefore, to avoid wasting your energy, it is wise to invest in Energy-Star rated choices.

  1. Street Noises

Modern and upgraded versions of replacement windows and doors obstruct the noise from outside and provide a quiet atmosphere inside the house. But, as windows and doors age, they do very little in offering that peace. The ones living on a busy road understand this problem. The best solution is to find an alternative way – buy new windows.

  1. Condensation

During winters, it is natural for some water droplets to appear over the window and door glass. And, of course, not all condensation is terrible. It depends where it is occurring. For instance, if there is a lot of moisture build-up happening between the layers of glass, it is a cause of concern. It is a clear indicator of your window seals failing miserably. And, because there is nothing you can do about it, going for a replacement is the best bet here.
