How to Remove Candle Wax Spills From Your Upholstery
CANDLE WAX SPILLS ON UPHOLSTERY
How to Remove Upholstery Stains Candle wax is a common stain on upholstery. Candle wax spills on fabric can be challenging to remove depending on the type of fabric and whether or not the candle wax has started to dry. The following steps will help you remove the most common types of candle wax stains from fabric.
Steps for Removing Candle Wax from Upholstery:
1) Freeze or refrigerate the affected area until the candle wax hardens (this step is optional). Freezing the candle wax makes it easier to scrape off with a plastic knife or dull edge.
2 Gently scrape any excess hardened candle wax from the surface of the fabric with a dull edge. Make sure to scrape in the direction of the fabric weave so you don’t damage or fray the fabric fibers. Do not use a sharp object because this could tear or rip the fibers in your upholstery.
3) Gently rub mineral oil into the affected area using an absorbent white cloth, paper towel, facial tissue, etc. This will help remove any remaining bits of candle wax and make it easier for our Upholstery Cleaning Brisbane Expert to finish removing all traces of wax from your fabric during their steam cleaning process.
4) Before moving on to Step 5 makes sure that ALL traces of remaining candle wax have been removed from your Upholstery. If any bits of remaining wax are left over they could easily burn and leave a permanent spot on your Upholstery.
5) Now that all traces of the candle wax have been removed you will need to treat your Upholstery with a Upholstery protector such as Scotchgard or similar fabric protectant spray to prevent future stains from taking hold.
6) We suggest waiting at least 12 hours before putting the Upholstery back into use after you have treated it with Upholstery protection.
Candle Wax Stain Removal on Wood Floors
Candle Wax Stain on a Wood Floor If the candle wax is still in a liquid state you can easily remove it from any upholstered surface using a hot wet towel or paper towels to soak up the wax and then let your Upholstery Cleaning Expert finish the job during their steam cleaning process. If this step fails or if you notice that the candle wax has started to dry out you will need to follow these steps:
1) Use a disposable razor blade scraper to carefully scrape off as much of the hardened candle wax from your Upholstery as possible. Make sure to scrape in the direction of the Upholstery weave and not against it or you could damage your Upholstery. Never use a sharp object because this could rip and tear Upholstery fibers.
2) Apply mineral oil to a clean white cloth, paper towel, facial tissue etc and gently rub the remaining candle wax away from your Upholstery using an outward circular motion (similar to how you would polish a dirty piece of glass). This will help remove any remaining bits of candle wax and make it easier for our Upholstery Cleaning Expert to finish removing all traces of wax from your fabric during their steam cleaning process.
3) Upholstery Steam Cleaning If there is a serious Upholstery stain left behind from the candle wax that could still burn then have your Upholstery professionally Upholstery steam cleaned to remove any remaining traces of candle wax. If you have Upholstery protection such as Scotchgard apply it again after Upholstery cleaning to prevent future stains from taking hold.
