Beholding features of React Native 0.59

Businesses eyeing at cross-platform mobile app development adores React Native for making their development journey more straightforward. React native combines HTML and Javascript to build mobile apps offering rich UI experience to their customers. It enables using React’s design to bring innovations further.

However, like every other framework, React Native also has specific lagging points. And, the Facebook developer’s community consistently make efforts to eliminate them by rectifying the bugs.

Recently in March, Facebook’s developer community came up with an updated version as React Native 0.59. Let us share the updates that React native 0.59 came up with:

Amended JSC: The previous version of React Native wasn’t compatible with modern JavaScript Core (JSC) features. It was even worse when compared with iOS’s modern JSC. Thanks for the updates, React native 0.59 now offers 64-bit support with modern JavaScript compatibility. It also provides certain benefits like RN updates, disabling the debug heap for all of the cases and will undoubtedly support WebKit.

Improved Command Line Interface (CLI): As you know that the React Native’s CLI had no official support and long-standing issues; which are now enhanced with a new repository, formatted log forms, and dedicated support from the team of experts.

Upgraded the upgrading process: During the mobile app development, React Native developers often faced the issue of upgrading to the latest version manually. Finally, the team heard of us. From now onwards, you need not update the individual components, instead, use command rn-diff-purge to determine the changes that newer version will make on your project and apply them. Once you try this manually, you will able to upgrade the next versions directly with the command react-native upgrade.

Introduced Hooks: With the latest version, now you can use Hooks for React Native. If you don’t know much about Hooks, let us guide you about that.

Hooks are the additions that enable you using react native features and state without mentioning the class. You can rest assured about the below facts regarding the introduction of hooks:

Hooks are optional: Using the hooks is entirely voluntary for you and you ain’t restricted to learn about them or use them.

Reversible: If you have tried hooks on some of the places in your code, but want to revert, you can always come back to that step.

Classes haven’t removed: When hooks are available, then to there is no plan of removal of classes from the repository or the library of React native.

No knowledge replacement: Hooks are there to offer more direct access to concepts like props, state, context, refs, and lifecycle. But, hooks don’t aim to replace their knowledge or application. Hooks are just offered for your ease, so don’t bother about them.

Fasten the App Launch: When you have got the heavy to load mobile apps, the application resources slows the process of app launch. For such cases, the new feature of “inline requires” is available now. This will ease the process of app launch by identifying and supporting the lazy loaded components of mobile applications.

Android Support Removed in 0.59: One of the most heart-breaking challenges of React Native 0.59 is the removal of Android support as per Google’s recommendations. This already leads to breakage of a few apps. It began when the issue presented a run-time error with the message “You need to use a Theme.AppCompat paper with this activity”. In such a case, you must upgrade the project with Android Manifest.xml file to make sure that your android theme is compatible with the App Compat theme or not.

So, these were the essential features that React Native 0.59 came up with. In the next update, you can expect the arrival of WebKit and Lean Core methodology to improve the management of libraries. In the current version, few components, namely AsyncStorage, ImageStore, MaskedViewIOS, NetInfo, Slider, ViewPagerAndroid are depreciated from the library. You must check for their new home to which they are migrated. To explore more on this, you can refer to the Lean Core Umbrella.

Lastly, we would like to thank all the contributors of the team for all additional features that will surely help the teams of React Native Development company. We are excitingly waiting for the future updates in the app development.

Cheers!
